I’ve Been Busy Living. My Blog Will Have to Cope.

Between a Blue Tsunami, a Hair-Climbing Kitten, and a Medication From Hell

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little quieter around here lately, don’t worry. I haven’t been abducted by aliens, joined another cult, or run off to become a drag queen in Key West. Although, frankly, that last option is sounding increasingly attractive.

I’ve simply had to make my offline life the priority for a bit. Apparently, being a functioning adult requires actual time and attention. Who authorized this nonsense?

First, there’s work. I’ve been creating and implementing trainings, which means spending a considerable amount of time helping other people learn things while occasionally forgetting what I walked into the kitchen to retrieve. My professional brain is firing on all cylinders. My personal brain is somewhere in the corner eating paste.

Then there’s politics. I proudly participated in the BLUE TSUNAMI on Election Day! I voted, watched the results, celebrated, and probably burned enough emotional calories to qualify for a marathon medal. After years of political insanity, I’ll take every opportunity to cheer for democracy showing up and reminding the wannabe kings that the country doesn’t belong to them.

And then there’s the newest member of Dandyland.

Dan and I adopted an outrageously adorable, spunky orange kitten named Hopscotch McPurrrfect, affectionately known as Hoppy or Hopper. He’s precious, energetic, completely unhinged, and apparently believes my hair is a jungle gym specifically installed for his entertainment. Nothing quite prepares you for a tiny orange maniac launching himself onto your head while you’re trying to have a peaceful moment. I haven’t decided whether he’s a kitten, a flying squirrel, or a tiny Republican sent to disrupt my peace.

And finally, there’s a new medication that has been kicking my ass six ways to Sunday. I’m giving my body time to adjust, but good grief. Between the fatigue and the general feeling that my internal operating system is running on Windows 95, some days simply getting through the day deserves a standing ovation.

So, writing has taken a temporary back seat. Not because I’ve run out of opinions. Good Lord, that would require a medical intervention of an entirely different kind. I’ve just been busy doing the very thing I spend so much time encouraging others to do: living my actual life instead of feeling obligated to perform productivity for an audience.

I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled ramblings, reflections, occasional profanity, and unsolicited observations about the human condition soon enough.

In the meantime, democracy is still standing, my husband is wonderful, my new kitten is certifiably insane, and I’m trying to keep my hair attached to my scalp.

Life is good. Exhausting, medicated, occasionally clawed, but good.

And if you hear a crash in the background, don’t worry. That’s probably just Hopscotch McPurrrfect attempting to overthrow the government of Dandyland.

Again.
